- There is evidence of a Docks fire brigade in 1855.
The Dock Company was sold to London & South Western Railway, who continued to maintain a private fire service.
In 1923 the LSWR turned into the Southern Railway.
At the outbreak of WW2 their station was adjacent to Berth 20, but in 1940 it was flattened by a bomb. A replacement station was sited at the Continental Booking Office at berth 9, (demolished) but the brigade was dis-banded in 1948 when the Southampton Fire Brigade was re-formed and took over responsibility for Docks fire cover.
